What Are The Up And Coming Design Trends?
After scrolling through the Home Design and Decor Facebook page I have, once again, found a quetion that needs to be answered: What Are The Up And Coming Design Trends?
Let me start by saying that this is your home and you should choose what you love. You're the one who is living in it and your home should be a reflection of you and your family. That being said, we also want our guests to appreciate our homes as well.
Now don't get trends confused with fads. Fads are short-lived and can be fun to use but you'll find that you quickly grow tired of it and want to change it long before the you realize the ROI. Trends, however, can last 3 to 10 years and can define a decade. Think of the Wedgewood Blue and geese of the 80's or the Hunter Green and Burgundy of the 90's.
Think about how nearly every home you've been to in the last 10 years has been gray. Gray is a classic design choice but things could be warming up. Getting a little spicy, even.
Brown is making a comeback. Earthy hues like Terracotta, Cinnamon, Persimmon and creamy beiges mixed with moody greens and shades of blue are bringing the outdoors, in. You may even find Raisin and shades of purple and pink sneaking in to create a vibe. With a color palette like that it's no surprise that an eclectic design style will reign.
The state of our economy and an aging housing supply have led many homeowners to age in place instead of buying a new home. This is likely to create a renovation boom! Repurposing and a desire for all things vintage will lead to design choices that prioritize sustainability. Historical style and a new take on the traditional will lead the way as thrifting surges. This is where redesigners, like myself, shine. I believe in embracing the old with the new. Updating your space with sentimental pieces that tell a story.
Aging in place could also mean it's time to update the big ticket items for the long haul.
That's why you'll see the biggest renovation budgets spent on kitchens and bathrooms as they are the rooms we spend most of our time in and demonstrate the best return on investment.
Kitchens will be nature inspired and organic with greens and blues warmed up with wood tones and layered lghting. Large open concept kitchens will likley feature large, dual-purpose islands, beverage bars, walk-in pantries, and double doors that combine indoor and outdoor living.
Bathrooms will showcase luxurious features like wet rooms and zero entry showers in cool blues and warm, natural wood. While there are a million patterns and styles of tile expect to see classic choices that feel raw and handmade.
As you can see, the upcoming trends are inspired by nature, the economy and practicality. A more realxed and moody vibe with vintage touches are sure to be seen. This is a movement with some really fun choices to be had.
Can you imagine these changes in your home? How would these choices fit your lifestyle? Your mood? It's a lot to consider and a bit overwhelming, I'm sure.
