Is Art Deco back? I'd say yes, and it has returned more mature and refined than ever.
The original Art Deco movement in the 1920s and '30s was sparked by the discovery of ancient Egyptian and Aztec art and the rise of technology following the Great Depression. This style favored symmetrical, geometric shapes like chevrons, zigzags, and sunbursts, along with elegant curves and luxurious materials. We saw a re-emergence in the '80s, but it was a more watered-down version with less detail and lots of pastels and neon.

Now, over 40 years later, Art Deco is making a grand comeback. This time, it's infused with elements of Art Nouveau, a style defined by its flowing lines and natural motifs. This new interpretation combines the best of both worlds, bringing the outdoors in with colors inspired by nature and jewel tones like aubergine, deep emerald, and moody blues.

Furniture pieces are now swathed in luxurious fabrics like velvets, florals, and fringe, while natural stone and shiny metals serve as accents. We're also seeing a remarkable return of burl wood, but this isn't your grandma's '70s wood furniture. Today's burl wood features soft, elegant lines and a rich, deep color that is more desired than ever. Fluted, rounded wood bases anchor dining rooms, while large statement chandeliers add drama and flair.

This latest movement seamlessly blends nature and technology for a truly glorious result. The modern Art Deco look can easily be integrated into a variety of styles, from traditional to modern transitional to a modern cottage.
